Three Things to Know about Saab's Carl-Gustaf® Manufacturing Facility in India
On 4th March, 2024, Saab performed the groundbreaking for the manufacturing facility for the shoulder-launched weapon system Carl-Gustaf® in India. The facility, run by the new company, Saab FFVO India, will be located in Jhajjhar, Haryana. This will be the first Carl-Gustaf manufacturing facility outside Sweden.
Manufacturing for exports
The facility will not just manufacture Carl-Gustaf M4 for the Indian Armed Forces but also components for export to customers of the system around the world. The Indian Army has been operating the Carl-Gustaf since the 1970s. With this facility, Saab strengthens its presence in India, contributing to India's goal of building a globally competitive defence industry.
Partnering with Indian sub-suppliers
Committing to true technology transfer, Saab plans to work with several Tier 1, 2, and 3 partners, vendors and suppliers and foster local expertise through training and knowledge sharing. Saab will continue its partnership with Munitions India Limited (MIL) and Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) to manufacture the Carl-Gustaf® weapon and its ammunition.
Committing to Make in India
Saab is the first global defence company to secure approval for 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for manufacturing the system in India. With this project, Saab reaffirms its commitment to “Make in India”. The ultimate goal is to support India’s Security goals through supply of products as well as technology. By establishing this new Carl-Gustaf® M4 manufacturing facility, we will further reinforce our India operations and support India’s journey as a global hub for the defence industry.
